The Meat Aisle vs A Vegan

So I've been a Vegan for 6-months now.

It's been a kind of funny, mostly healthy, and annoyingly pretentious pursuit. My roommates mock me weekly for talking about my diet as much as I do. And you know what, They're right.

I'm not doing anything special. I'm just eating like a Stegosaurus instead of a Bear.

But one thing I am doing is starting to see a difference in my economy. No for real, I see grocery shopping $ in a whole new way.

I realized this shopping with the roomie yesterday. He had a cruise down the meat aisle. And I joined him. I was curious to see where prices are at for my former favorite foods. They seemed about where I'd left them.

Between $6-10 for one good sized piece of meat. And I was in the 50% off section.

Thinking (6 months later) about that in vegan terms was pretty cool. When you consider that amount of money only in vegetables, it's great bang for buck. As long as your cheap ass isn't going organic.

See, I understand the health craze of Organic. I agree with it. That doesn't mean my appetite and wallet agree with it.

My method is simple: Buy at least one organic per grocery visit.

That way you're still eating healthy, and keeping your budget in a great place.

Q: How is vegan more affordable when non-dairy ANYTHING is at least $2 more expensive.

A: I can't argue this one. The non-dairy just is pricier. That's a fact. Thing is, when you go vegan, your grocery store options dwindle. There's (I'd say) a solid 60% of the grocery store I just don't think of anymore cause it's bound to have milk or cheese or butter in the ingredients.

When you subtract the price of any food with dairy (including freezer food, bakery items, and milk and butter prices you ALWAYS buy as a normie food eater), you cut $15-$25 instantly from your purchase in store. That means you gain an extra $15 to spend on SUPER cheap vegan options (rice and beans?) and a little buffer room for the pricier Coconut milk and vegan ice cream.

So why am I happy seeing the meat prices post-vegano transition? Diversification.

As a machine (which is what your body is) you will gain the most through metabolism by having the highest diversity of different minerals and vitamins in your diet. SIMPLIFIED: Eating one thing all the time starves your body of nutrients, Eating different foods all the time will supplement what your body is lacking. If you want to learn more, hit up a nutritionist or your old Health Text Book from high school.

Going Vegan was NOT easy, but after 6 months with a new outlook on buying food, I'm quite happy with how I have changed.
